[On-Site Video] Han Dong-hoon: "The Public Will Not Tolerate It If Kim Seung-won’s Appointment as Justice Minister Is Forced Through"

Independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon held a press conference at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea on the 15th and launched a fierce criticism of Kim Seung-won, the nominee for Minister of Justice, and the Democratic Party of Korea.
During the confirmation hearing, Han pointed to Kim’s characterization of him as an “enemy of democracy,” saying, "If I become an enemy of democracy simply because I was the first to raise suspicions about Kim Seung-won’s ‘oppa poison lobbying’ and disclose the evidence, then I will become an enemy of democracy a hundred or even a thousand times over."
He continued, "Kim Seung-won, the ‘oppa poison lobbyist,’ and those determined to make such a person the head of the Republic of Korea’s justice ministry are the true enemies of democracy. I will stand at the forefront of the people and fight against the enemies of democracy."
Han described the confirmation hearing process as a “turning point in history” and criticized indications that ruling-party lawmakers and Kim had continued to shield one another during their questioning. He also cited Kim’s past drunk-driving conviction and concerns that public-interest whistleblowers could face retaliation, stating, "The Republic of Korea cannot accept such a person as Minister of Justice."
Finally, referring to the case of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk, Han expressed his determination to mount a strong fight, saying, "Even if they force through the appointment, the public will not remain silent."
