[Financial News] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) is moving 50 administrative and public information systems to the private cloud. The plan is to complete the work by the first quarter of 2027, starting with systems that are easy to transition, such as agency websites and simple information provision services. On the 16th, MOIS announced this plan to migrate public information systems to the private cloud. This measure is a follow-up to the 'Direction for Promoting AI Government Infrastructure Governance and Innovation' announced by the National AI Strategy Committee last February.
MOIS selected 50 systems, including agency websites and simple information provision services, that can be migrated without establishing a separate Information Strategy Plan (ISP). The ministry plans to transition these systems to the private cloud in stages.
The government is expanding the migration to the private cloud to gradually transform the operational foundation of existing public information systems in line with the closure of the National Information Resources Service (NIRS) in 2030. It also aims to decentralize the operation of government and public sector systems by utilizing data centers and technical personnel owned by the private sector.
To minimize service disruptions during the transition process, the government decided to include a preliminary testing and stabilization period. The approach involves transitioning the services after inspecting the existing system and the private cloud environment.
The government is also easing the cost burden on relocating agencies. It supports system relocation costs and plans to support private cloud usage fees incurred after the transition until 2027.
Starting next year, the number of systems subject to relocation is expected to increase. MOIS plans to select additional systems that can be moved to the private cloud by assessing information system security grades in accordance with the National Intelligence Service (NIS)'s National Network Security System Guidelines (N2SF).
Hwang Gyu-cheol, head of the AI Government Office at MOIS, said, "We will minimize service interruptions during the migration process to ensure there is no inconvenience to the services used by the public."
