Now in its ninth year, the New Media Content Awards were established to discover globally competitive content and promote production amid the changing online video distribution environment, including online video services (OTT), YouTube, and TikTok.
The Korea Creative Content Agency President's Award for Excellence went to five works across different genres: the medium- to long-form drama 'Azure Spring' (Oz Arena); the short-form drama 'Red Shadow' (Studio Dalgam); the variety show 'Betting on Fact' (NextKey); the educational program 'Next-Door Families' (Korean Broadcasting System (KBS)); and the documentary 'Cult Hunter' (14F and KeyEast).
Lezhin Entertainment and Memory Restoration Lab were selected for special awards, which recognize businesses and creators that have contributed to the continued growth and development of the new media video content industry. Memory Restoration Lab, which received the special award in the video creator category, was highly regarded for presenting new production possibilities through content that restores videos and photographs using artificial intelligence (AI).
Jeon Woo-young, head of KOCCA's Broadcasting and Video Content Division, said, "As video content formats and distribution channels become increasingly centered online and change rapidly, creators' challenging and innovative efforts have become more important than ever. We will continue to actively discover outstanding broadcasting and video content, as well as capable businesses and creators, and provide diverse support so that K-Content can build differentiated competitiveness in domestic and overseas markets."
