【Financial News Suncheon = Hwang Tae-jong】Suncheon City is working with the Suncheon Office of Education to create a reading ecosystem city.
According to Suncheon City on the 16th, it will hold a vision declaration ceremony for “Suncheon, a Reading Ecosystem City” on the 19th at the lawn plaza of Shindae Library together with the Suncheon Office of Education.
The ceremony marks a new starting point for developing literacy and critical thinking skills, which have become even more important in the age of artificial intelligence (AI), through reading. It will also announce the creation of a reading ecosystem involving families, schools, libraries, and the local community. The event will begin at 5 p.m. and include the announcement of the vision, the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Suncheon City and the Suncheon Office of Education, and the reading of a joint declaration by citizens.
In particular, children, teenagers, parents, citizen representatives, the head of the Suncheon Office of Education, and the mayor of Suncheon will take part in reading the joint declaration. Together, they will declare their commitment to sharing the vision across the city and putting it into practice.
A Suncheon City official emphasized, "Reading is a process that builds the ability to think independently and understand other people's thoughts," adding, "For the lives of our citizens and the future of our city, we will create 'Suncheon, a Reading Ecosystem City,' where everyone can easily incorporate reading into their daily lives."
Building on the vision declaration and memorandum of understanding, Suncheon City and the Suncheon Office of Education plan to jointly establish the foundation for completing “Suncheon, a Reading Ecosystem City.” Their plans include expanding links between school and library reading programs and training Suncheon-style reading instructors for use in educational settings.
Meanwhile, the “Sintral Park Book Picnic” will take place at the lawn plaza of Shindae Library from 3 p.m. before the vision declaration ceremony. A variety of programs—including an outdoor library, a citizens’ market, hands-on activity booths, traditional games, and performances—will run until 8 p.m., allowing residents to relax and enjoy themselves with books while experiencing reading as part of everyday culture.
