Ministerial Nominee Kang Shin-chul Says He Is Willing to Reform Military Academies

[Financial News] Kang Shin-chul, the nominee for minister of national defense, emphasized on the 16th that he is "willing to reform the military academies" in connection with the integration of the Republic of Korea Army Academy, Republic of Korea Naval Academy, and Republic of Korea Air Force Academy.
Kang, a graduate of the Republic of Korea Army Academy, gave this answer at a confirmation hearing held at the National Assembly in response to a question about establishing an integrated Armed Forces Academy.
However, Kang also stated that, in his personal view, "there are areas that need to be supplemented" in the basic plan for integrating the military academies currently prepared by the Ministry of National Defense.
The integration of the military academies is a presidential campaign pledge and a national policy task of President Lee Jae Myung. The Ministry of National Defense recently announced a basic plan to establish a four-year Armed Forces Academy in Jaundae, Daejeon, by integrating the three service academies of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Meanwhile, regarding the transfer of wartime operational control, Kang said it was "something successive administrations have continuously pursued" and expressed the view that "our fulfillment of the conditions has now been substantially improved, and the circumstances have also been established."
