Prime Minister Han Seong-sook discussed the 'plan to introduce abortion medication' at the 14th National Policy Coordination Meeting held at Government Complex Seoul on the 16th.

Prime Minister Han stated, "The reality is that some women are resorting to dangerous methods due to the continued institutional vacuum following the Constitutional Court of Korea's 2019 ruling that the abortion law was incompatible with the Constitution," adding, "We must no longer leave this issue neglected amid the debate for and against."
He added, "Consequently, it amounts to overlooking the lives and safety of the people," and stated, "As the President also mentioned last July, it was urgent to come up with a safe and realistic solution."

Prime Minister Han stated, "Safety is paramount," adding, "We must devise measures to ensure that women in need receive medical care within a safe medical system, rather than relying on unverified methods." He further emphasized, "We take concerns regarding the value of life very seriously," and asserted, "This measure is intended to protect public health rather than to encourage induced abortion."
Prime Minister Han stated, "We will continue to listen fully to the voices of all walks of life while responding to adverse reactions and ensuring there are no loopholes in drug safety management." Photo/Video by Reporter Seo Dong-il
