[Financial News] Sony Korea announced on the 16th that it had officially launched the Sony FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G (SEL814G), Sony’s first fisheye zoom G lens, in South Korea.
The SEL814G combines an 8mm circular fisheye to a 14mm diagonal fisheye zoom range with the resolution and performance of a G lens. It can be used not only for everyday photography but also in professional settings such as landscape, architectural, sports, and video production. From an 8mm full-frame circular fisheye view to a 14mm diagonal fisheye view that fills the frame, its 180-degree field of view captures the dynamism of spaces and subjects. Photographers can vary the field of view and composition according to their subjects and creative intentions.
The SEL814G uses ED (extra-low dispersion) and aspherical elements to suppress chromatic and other aberrations, delivering high resolution throughout the zoom range. With a minimum focusing distance of 0.15m and a maximum magnification of 0.22x at the telephoto end, it also enables close-up fisheye photography. Its ultra-lightweight, compact design weighs approximately 314g, making it convenient for handheld shooting or use with equipment such as a gimbal.
Its inner zoom design minimizes shifts in the center of gravity during zooming. When used with the SONY VENICE Extension System Mini and a dual setup, the left and right lenses are positioned 64mm apart, matching the distance between the human pupils. This creates a natural sense of space and depth, making the lens ideal for shooting 3D and VR content.
Linear-response manual focus enables fast and precise focus control. The lens suppresses focus breathing and operates quietly, making it suitable for video recording. It also offers convenient operation with a focus-mode switch, a zoom-lock switch, and an aperture ring with a CLICK ON/OFF switch. Its dust- and moisture-resistant design, along with fluorine coating on the front element, makes it well suited for outdoor use.
A Sony Korea representative said, "The SEL814G not only supports a variety of fisheye shooting, from an 8mm circular fisheye to a 14mm diagonal fisheye, but also combines the distinctive image quality and convenient operation of a G lens." The representative added, "We expect it to be an optimal choice for those seeking dynamic and creative photographic expression."
