One Month Before ITS World Congress in Gangneung, Gangwon State Activates Administrative Support Headquarters

【Financial News Gangneung = Kim Gi-seop】The 2026 Gangneung ITS World Congress, the world's largest international event on intelligent transportation systems (ITS), is now just over a month away.
According to Gangwon State on the 16th, the state will fully activate an on-site support system centered on its administrative support headquarters to ensure the successful hosting of the congress. The event will be held for five days, from October 19 to 23, across Gangneung Olympic Park.
Approximately 60,000 people from around 90 countries will attend the congress, which will feature ministerial and academic conferences, an exhibition of advanced transportation technologies, technology demonstrations and tours, and cultural events. A total of 419 companies and institutions from South Korea and abroad, including Hyundai, LG Electronics and Google, will participate and showcase future transportation technologies, such as Level 4 autonomous vehicles, parking robots and an artificial intelligence (AI)-based transportation platform.
Gangwon State is operating an administrative support headquarters headed by the deputy governor for economic affairs. It has established support systems covering transportation, publicity, safety, firefighting, medical services, roads and tourism. During the congress, an on-site comprehensive situation room will share updates from each field in real time and respond swiftly to unexpected situations in cooperation with Gangneung and the organizing committee.
To broaden participation, the state will coordinate with cities and counties and affiliated agencies to hold meetings and workshops in Gangneung and the Yeongdong region during the congress. It will also encourage attendees to visit the exhibition halls and technology demonstrations, helping boost local accommodation, tourism and consumer spending. More than 400 participants from 10 events, including the Gangwon Advanced Transportation Safety Culture Workshop, are currently scheduled to visit the congress venue.
Starting 30 days before the event, Gangwon State will launch an intensive promotional campaign through various media, including its website, social networking services (SNS) and electronic billboards. On the 18th, it will hold the second preparatory briefing for the administrative support headquarters to conduct a final review of preparations in each field, the operating plan for the comprehensive situation room and the roles of each department.
Lee Jong-gu, director of the Construction and Transportation Bureau of Gangwon State, said, "We will bring preparations from each field together in the comprehensive situation room and respond in real time to transportation, safety and medical issues," adding, "By working closely with Gangneung and the organizing committee, we will make this a successful congress that 60,000 people can attend safely."
