【Financial News Hongcheon—Kim Ki-seop】The 2026 Hongmaek Festa, centered on beer, one of Hongcheon’s signature local resources, will bring renewed vitality to the commercial district in Sinjangdae-ri, Hongcheon-eup.
According to Hongcheon County on September 16, the festival will take place from September 18 through October 17 in the Sinjangdae-ri Autonomous Commercial District. Hosted by the Sinjangdae-ri Autonomous Commercial District Cooperative as part of a project to revitalize the area, the festival will be held 10 times in total, every Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. during the event period.
Performances spanning trot, busking, musicals, bands, hip-hop, jazz and brass bands will fill Sinjangdae-ri’s autumn nights throughout the festival. Comedian Ahn So Mi will make a special appearance at the opening ceremony.
The festival also offers a wide range of beer-themed activities. In addition to a beer-drinking speed contest and a world-beer identification contest, the program includes a talent show for local residents, a flea market and food trucks. Visitors of all ages can enjoy activities such as making upcycled key rings, face painting, calligraphy, traditional folk games, a street basketball tournament and drone soccer. The event is designed to let visitors enjoy performances, hands-on activities and food while experiencing the shops in the commercial district and the appeal of the local area.
From this year through 2030, Hongcheon County will invest a total project budget of 6.6 billion won in a commercial-district revitalization project centered on the Sinjangdae-ri Autonomous Commercial District. The project includes developing a joint brand using beer, one of Hongcheon’s signature resources, creating a themed street, strengthening merchants’ capabilities and conducting joint marketing. The Sinjangdae-ri Autonomous Commercial District Cooperative, which is leading the project, plans to improve the district’s competitiveness through merchants’ voluntary participation and establish a sustainable operating system.
A Hongcheon County official said, "We hope this festival, which brings together beer, performances and food, will restore vitality to the Sinjangdae-ri commercial district. We also hope every visitor will make unforgettable memories this autumn."
