【Financial News Incheon = Reporter Han Gap-su】 Transportation convenience will improve for travelers arriving at Incheon International Airport late at night or heading from Seoul to the airport during the Chuseok holiday. Airport Railroad will extend the routes of its northbound and southbound last trains for two days during the holiday.
Airport Railroad announced on September 16 that it would extend the operating sections of its last trains on September 26–27 during the Chuseok holiday to accommodate late-night travel demand from airport travelers and returning holiday travelers.
The measure comes as overseas travelers and people returning home for the holiday are expected to continue traveling until late at night. Airport Railroad plans to expand late-night service connecting Incheon International Airport with central Seoul, making it easier for passengers arriving at the airport late or returning to Seoul to reach their destinations.
The northbound last train, which currently departs Incheon International Airport Terminal 2 Station at 11:50 p.m. and runs only as far as Digital Media City Station, will be extended to Seoul Station during this period. The extended-service train will arrive at Seoul Station at 12:57 a.m. the following day.
The southbound last train, which departs Seoul Station at midnight and previously ran only as far as Geomam Station, will also be extended to Incheon International Airport Terminal 2 Station. The train will arrive at Incheon International Airport Terminal 2 Station at 1:07 a.m.
In particular, Seoul Metro, Seoul Subway Line 9, and Incheon Transit Corporation are also expected to extend their operating hours during the holiday. This is expected to improve transfers between lines during late-night hours.
With the extension of last-train service, Airport Railroad plans to expand transportation options for overseas travelers arriving at the airport late and passengers returning home, allowing them to travel to Seoul and the greater metropolitan area using late-night public transportation.
Ji Yong-chan, head of Airport Railroad’s Customer Business Division, said, "This year, returning holiday travelers and overseas travelers are expected to continue traveling until late at night during the Chuseok holiday. We decided to extend the operating sections of the last trains so that customers can travel without inconvenience even during late-night hours."
