“It Felt Like He Could Kill Me at Any Moment”... Man Curses at and Threatens Young Female Delivery Worker

[Financial News] A female delivery worker said she felt extreme fear after a man cursed at her and threatened her by punching the window of her vehicle in an apartment’s underground parking lot.
On the 10th, SBS News Hunters introduced the story of A, a 19-year-old female delivery worker.
According to A, she had double-parked in the underground parking lot of an apartment building in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, at around 3 p.m. on August 29. After returning from making a delivery, she found a man taking pictures of her vehicle. The man, presumed to be a resident of the apartment complex, was reportedly with his family at the time.
The man hurled insults at A, saying, “F***, are you kidding me right now?”, “F***, how can you park your car like this?”, and “F***, you park like crap.”
Alarmed, A quickly moved her vehicle so that it could get out. However, the man followed her while reversing and threatened her, shouting, “Hey!! Hey, are you trying to start something right now?” and “F***, are you trying to start something? Move back farther so I can get out.”
A claimed, “It was considered one of the apartment complexes where double-parking is particularly common among delivery workers, and I often receive requests to bring packages quickly, so I briefly double-parked with my hazard lights on.” She added, “I was parked for about two minutes, but he came toward me in an extremely threatening manner while hurling the worst insults at me.” She continued, “I thought I could get out easily if I turned the car around, but I was so scared and anxious because it genuinely felt like he could kill me at any moment.”
Feeling that her safety was at risk, A reported the incident to police. The man reportedly hurriedly moved his vehicle and fled.
A said, “If I had actually blocked the road and made it impossible for him to leave, then it would make sense for him not to be able to get away. But when I reported it to the police, he fled.”
A, who began working as a delivery driver at a young age to cover the costs of pursuing her dream of becoming a race car driver, reportedly suffered significant psychological distress from the incident and changed the apartment delivery area assigned to her.
A lamented, “When my male team leader went there, nothing like that happened at all.” She added, “If I had been a typical male delivery worker, I think he would not have cursed at me and would have simply said, ‘Please move your car.’ But because a very young woman was doing delivery work, it seems he just resorted to profanity without asking any questions.”
A has filed a criminal complaint against the man for insult. Police have completed their questioning of A as the victim and plan to summon the other vehicle’s owner soon to establish the specific circumstances of the incident.
Attorney Song Ji-won, who reviewed the case, said, “The full CCTV footage shows that people other than the man’s family were also walking around.” Song assessed that “this makes it highly likely that the charge of insult will be recognized.”
Song continued, “Charges of intimidation or assault may also be considered.” Song explained, “There is case law stating that the exercise of physical force does not necessarily mean directly hitting someone; shouting loudly to intimidate a person can also constitute assault.” Song added, “Hitting the vehicle could also potentially constitute assault.”
