Hong Ji-seon: "Housing Supply Must Move Quickly; We Will Communicate Fully on the Second Relocation of Public Institutions"

[Financial News] Hong Ji-seon, nominee for minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said she would mobilize all public and private capabilities to expand housing supply to a level that people can feel in their daily lives.
At her opening statement at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea’s confirmation hearing on the 16th, Hong said, "We will swiftly promote housing supply by mobilizing all public and private capabilities until we provide homes where people want them and the market feels adequately supplied."
Hong identified housing stability as the top priority of land and transport policy. She added, "We will achieve housing stability that people can feel," indicating that policy efforts would focus not only on the volume of supply but also on providing homes in areas preferred by prospective residents.
She also said cooperation with local governments would be strengthened to improve the implementation of supply policies. Hong stated, "Drawing on my experience working in local government, I will resolve on-the-ground difficulties, such as permitting delays, and improve policy implementation."
Hong also pledged to expand support for future generations and housing-vulnerable groups. She emphasized, "We will strengthen the housing ladder for future generations, including young people and newlywed couples, and provide robust protection for housing-vulnerable groups, including older adults and victims of rental fraud."
On balanced regional development, she said, "Balanced development is a matter of national survival," adding, "We will support mega-projects to establish advanced-industry hubs in the regions and continue developing the administrative capital and Saemangeum as key regional hubs."
Regarding the second relocation of public institutions, she said, "We will communicate fully with the institutions and local governments and create an initial catalyst for growth by closely linking the relocation with regional industries."
In transportation, Hong pledged to expand metropolitan transit networks by region and reduce transportation costs. She said, "We will expand metropolitan transit networks across the five mega-regions and three special regions and further guarantee mobility rights for transportation-vulnerable people and residents of underserved areas," adding, "We will also expand the benefits of the Everyone Card to ease the public’s transportation cost burden."
