[Financial News] Pukyong National University said on the 16th that it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority on the 15th to strengthen cooperation in maritime transportation safety and the marine and fisheries sector.
The two institutions signed the agreement to jointly pursue education, research and technological cooperation as the marine and fisheries sector, including the development of the Northern Sea Route (NSR), has emerged as a key area of interest for strengthening the nation's future competitiveness.
The agreement is intended to create synergies by bringing together a university with specialized education and research capabilities in the marine and fisheries sector and a public institution with expertise in maritime transportation safety.
Under the agreement, the two institutions will work together on joint research and technological cooperation in the marine and fisheries sector, including maritime transportation safety, eco-friendly and smart ships, development of the NSR and changes in the marine environment; jointly plan and identify national research and development projects as well as policy and demonstration projects; promote personnel and academic exchanges and train professionals in the marine and fisheries sector; and jointly use research facilities, equipment and information while fostering industry–academia–research–government cooperation.
