Hyundai Motor Company to Standardize Safety Management Across Global Operations as Leaders from 12 Countries Gather

[Financial News] Hyundai Motor Company has launched a consultative body to standardize safety management across its operations worldwide. Safety officials from each region will gather to share best practices and discuss ways to apply them at other sites. The initiative is intended to share the headquarters' safety strategies with overseas operations and develop specific implementation plans for local sites.
Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 16th that it had launched the Global Integrated Safety Council (GOSC) and would hold its first conference at domestic operations through the 18th. This is the first time that safety officials from all of Hyundai Motor Company's global operations have gathered in one place.
About 40 safety officials from 12 countries and regions, including the Americas, Europe, India, the Asia-Pacific region and China, are attending the conference, along with Choi Young-il, Hyundai Motor Company's executive vice president and chief safety and health officer. Participants will seek ways to expand exemplary safety practices from each region across all operations and discuss strategies for standardizing global safety management.
On the first day, participants held a Global Safety Session at the Hyundai Motor Group Academy Mabuk Campus to discuss safety strategies and implementation plans. On the 17th, a Brand Session will be held at the Hyundai Motor Group Yangjae Headquarters and Hyundai Motorstudio Seoul on the relationship between safety management and corporate credibility. On the final day, the 18th, a Field Safety Session will take place at the Ulsan Plant to review safety management conditions and related technologies at the production site.
Choi said, "This conference is an opportunity to share the headquarters' safety philosophy and safety strategies with global safety leaders. I hope it will serve as an occasion to reaffirm that the safety of our employees is the top priority for Hyundai Motor Company to maintain its competitiveness as a top-tier global brand."
Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Company has continued safety management activities aimed at identifying and addressing workplace hazards in advance. According to its 2024 sustainability report, the company conducted risk assessments, occupational safety and health inspections, work-environment measurements for noise and hazardous chemicals, and emergency-response training.
When evaluating safety management performance, the company considered both accident outcomes and preventive activities. It used the identification and mitigation of serious hazards and safety-leadership activities as preventive indicators, while the occurrence of serious accidents and accident rates served as outcome indicators. These evaluation criteria—including the achievement of accident-rate targets, safety-leadership activities and exemplary accident-prevention initiatives—were applied not only to domestic organizations but also to overseas production subsidiaries.
The company also carried out health-management programs to prevent occupational diseases among employees. It investigated and assessed hazardous factors and provided follow-up measures, including individual health screenings and treatment. In addition to operating measures and programs to prevent musculoskeletal disorders, Hyundai Motor Company promoted activities to improve lifestyle habits and prevent work-related stress.
