[Financial News] Hwang Ki-yeon, President of The Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM), met with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to discuss ways to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
According to the financial industry on the 15th, Hwang discussed "measures to enhance economic cooperation between the two countries" during a meeting with President Mirziyoyev, who was visiting Korea to attend the "1st Korea-Central Asia Summit."
During a meeting held immediately following the "Korea-Uzbekistan Business Roundtable," Hwang conveyed his welcome to President Mirziyoyev, stating, "I look forward to economic cooperation between the two countries becoming even stronger through this Korea-Central Asia Summit."
Uzbekistan is pursuing national development policies including the development of key minerals and energy, industrial diversification, and infrastructure expansion. As a result, it is emerging as an important strategic economic cooperation partner for Korea in stabilizing global supply chains, diversifying export markets, and securing future growth engines.
The Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM) believes that the successful implementation of Uzbekistan's large-scale national development policies is directly linked to diversifying Korea's key mineral supply chains and strengthening the competitiveness of high-tech industries.
The Uzbek side and The Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM) subsequently agreed that Korea's outstanding industrial technological capabilities and Uzbekistan's development potential should be organically combined to create optimal synergies that generate tangible economic benefits for both countries.
To support cooperation between the two countries, The Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM) laid a solid foundation for cooperation by exchanging memoranda of understanding on key projects that would lead to tangible results, including the establishment of a system for identifying strategic projects, on the occasion of this summit.
Hwang stated, "Through this summit and a series of related events, we have further solidified the framework for future-oriented cooperation between the two countries," adding, "We will faithfully develop the agreed-upon projects, accelerate economic cooperation with Uzbekistan, and concentrate our capabilities on ensuring that these efforts lead to tangible financial support results."
Meanwhile, on the 14th, The Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM) signed a "Memorandum of Understanding for the Establishment of a Strategic Business Discovery System" with the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The areas of cooperation under the agreement cover Uzbekistan's six major national strategic industries, including core minerals, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology, advanced infrastructure, the creation of specialized industrial complexes exclusively for Korean companies, and pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.
