Samsung Life Insurance Seeks Future Technologies with University Students Beyond Insurance

[Financial News] Samsung Life Insurance has joined forces with university students to discover technologies and ideas that can transform the lives of future customers beyond the realm of insurance.
Samsung Life Insurance announced on the 16th that it held the Life-nology Lab Demo Day at Samsung Financial Campus in Seocho-gu, Seoul, and unveiled the project results of teams participating in the third cohort.
Life-nology Lab is a name combining “Life” and “Technology.” It is an industry-academia innovation program that Samsung Life Insurance has operated since 2024. Rather than limiting its scope to insurance products or services, the program aims to discover ideas that use technology to enrich customers’ lives.
The third cohort included students majoring in IT-related fields from five universities: Korea University (KU), Yonsei University, Seoul National University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and Hanyang University. Over approximately four months, 39 teams worked on projects focused on using technology to realize changes in society and daily life expected over the next 10 years.
The projects covered three themes: “Connections that add possibilities,” “Changes that bring vitality to life,” and “Predictions that uncover new opportunities.” At the Demo Day, the teams unveiled their technology-based results, and visitors directly experienced some of the solutions using VR headsets and smart glasses.
Awards were also presented for outstanding projects. The grand prize went to three teams: “ParallelMe,” which uses AI to simulate possible futures based on major choices in life; “Memory Saerok,” which helps dementia patients recall memories; and “Kinetic Assets,” which analyzes changes in bodily movement.
The grand-prize-winning teams will be given the opportunity to attend DeveloperWeek, an independent developer conference held in San Francisco next February, as well as tour Silicon Valley.
Faculty members from each university also participated in the program as academic advisers. Professor Shim Byonghyo of Seoul National University said the students demonstrated the potential of technology by developing their ideas into practical solutions rather than stopping at simply proposing them.
A Samsung Life Insurance representative said, "It was a meaningful opportunity to discover new possibilities for customers’ happy lives beyond the realm of insurance together with future developers." The representative added, "We will continue various activities that can present new possibilities in our customers’ lives."
