Free Experiences and Immersive Videos in One Place: Museum and Art Museum Expo to Be Held in Daejeon

[Financial News] An expo showcasing museum and art museum exhibitions and immersive content in one place will take place in Daejeon. The event will also offer free hands-on experiences, job counseling, and an academic conference on how digital technology is transforming museums.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) on the 16th, the '2026 Museum and Art Museum Expo' will be held at the Daejeon Convention Center (DCC) from the 18th to the 20th. The event was jointly organized by MCST, the Korean Museums Association, and Daejeon Metropolitan City.
The theme of the event, now in its third year, is 'K-Culture, Museums Opening the Future—Expansion, Transformation, and Future Orientation.' A total of 151 institutions—including national, public, private, and university museums and art museums, as well as local governments and companies—will operate more than 380 booths.
The number of participating institutions has increased by 51% in two years, from 100 at the inaugural event in 2024. In addition to cultural experiences, the expo will offer job counseling and academic exchanges, creating a program for both general visitors and museum professionals.
Ten hands-on and educational programs, including a multisensory experience featuring biological specimens from national parks and a rice-cake-making activity, will be offered free of charge at the venue. Seventeen immersive content programs, including the National Folk Museum of Korea's 'Tiger God Gets Excited,' will also be screened continuously.
Visitors can take tours of six museums and art museums in the Daejeon and Chungnam regions, including the National Science Museum and Gongju National Museum. Conversations with museum directors and traditional music performances will also be held. Counseling will be available for job seekers in the museum and art museum fields.
Sixty-nine participating institutions in the regional touring exhibition project 'Museum Ieum' will also take part. They will present hands-on activities and special exhibitions from the Gimpo Tea Etiquette Museum, Yonsei University Museum, and Art Museum Deorimi. A stamp-collecting event will also be held as visitors tour the booths.
The 20th Korean Museum International Academic Conference will also take place. On the 18th and 19th, Yu Hong-jun, director of the National Museum of Korea; Chase F. Robinson, director of the Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art; and Jaeseung Jeong, a professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), will deliver keynote speeches. Eighteen organizations will participate in the conference sessions.
Jeong Hyang-mi, head of MCST's Cultural Arts Policy Office, said, "Museums and art museums are strong roots that support K-Culture. MCST will work to ensure that museums and art museums become spaces where people can enjoy culture in their daily lives, wherever they are in the country."
