[Financial News] Prosecutors have sought a two-year prison sentence for a man accused of assaulting an acquaintance with a liquor bottle while drinking together at an adult entertainment establishment.
On the 15th, prosecutors asked the court to sentence Jin, whose surname is withheld, to two years in prison during the closing hearing in his aggravated assault trial. The hearing was presided over by Judge Chu Jin-seok of the Seoul Eastern District Court's Criminal Division 5.
The prosecution explained its sentencing request, saying, "Although the victim does not want the defendant punished, the defendant has neither admitted to the offense nor shown remorse in court." It added, "He has a history of violence, and the injuries suffered by the victim are also serious."
The defendant is accused of repeatedly hitting an acquaintance with a liquor bottle and stabbing the person with the broken bottle at an adult entertainment establishment in Garak-dong, Songpa District, Seoul, at around 4:23 a.m. on February 26.
The defense attorney argued for acquittal, saying the alleged assault with a liquor bottle had not been proven beyond a reasonable doubt because no one directly witnessed the incident and CCTV footage from inside the establishment had not been obtained.
The attorney also cited the victim's statement during the investigation that suggested the victim had been injured independently. In addition, the attorney said the victim had submitted a statement declining punishment and a settlement agreement without receiving a separate settlement payment, arguing, "There was no motive to lie for the defendant without receiving any financial benefit."
Meanwhile, the sentencing hearing for Jin is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. on the 13th of next month.
