Soyoung Lee: "South Korea Dreams of NVIDIA, Yet Cannot Even Embrace TADA"

[Financial News] Soyoung Lee, nominee for minister of SMEs and Startups, said she would take the lead in addressing barriers to entry to promote innovation.
At a confirmation hearing held by the National Assembly’s Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs, and Startups Committee on the 15th, Soyoung Lee said, "I do not think our society is yet receptive to innovation." She added, "We hope companies like NVIDIA or Tesla will emerge in South Korea, but in reality, we live in an environment that cannot even embrace small innovations such as Uber or TADA."
She explained, "I believe lowering the barriers created by various entry regulations is a way to enable people to take on new challenges and innovate." She continued, "That is why I said I would confront regulatory issues head-on, with the mindset of a minister dedicated to regulatory reform."
She also stressed that, to improve the current social climate in which people believe that society does not reward effort with commensurate results, "I think the answer, although it may seem abstract, is to formulate policies while taking greater account of the realities faced by socially vulnerable people."
As a young minister in her 40s, she also pledged to adopt a working style that would not be bound by established practices.
Soyoung Lee emphasized, "At just over 40, some may say I still lack life experience, but I will work dynamically—sometimes pushing against obstacles rather than simply following established patterns." She added, "I believe the public will expect me to be a dynamic minister, rather than a managerial minister who works in a solemn and familiar manner, even if my approach may sometimes look rough around the edges."
