Gangneung Mayor Kim Jung-nam Visits National Assembly and Government to Propose New KTX Nam-Gangneung Station

【Financial News Gangneung = Kim Ki-seop】Gangneung Mayor Kim Jung-nam met successively with lawmakers, government officials, and Gangneung-origin associations in Seoul to address key local issues.
On the 15th, Mayor Kim met with National Assembly and government officials in succession to propose the construction of KTX Nam-Gangneung Station and the establishment of the tentatively named National Gangneung Cultural Heritage Research Institute, while requesting their support.
The construction of KTX Nam-Gangneung Station is a pledge of the ninth popularly elected local-government term. It is expected to serve as a foundation for expanding Gangneung’s transportation potential by distributing the functions of the current Gangneung Station, which has reached capacity, and preparing for the opening of the Jejin–Gangneung and Suseo–Gangneung railways. Regarding the effort to bring the National Gangneung Cultural Heritage Research Institute to Gangneung, Mayor Kim emphasized that it would establish a foundation for swiftly responding to major disasters, such as the Gangneung wildfire in April 2023, while creating a hub for cultural heritage research in the Gangwon region.
On the same day, Mayor Kim met for the first time since the launch of the ninth popularly elected local-government term with the Gangneung Citizens’ Association in Seoul and the Association of Gangneung High School Alumni in Seoul. He expressed his gratitude for their continued interest in their hometown and asked them to contribute to the city’s development through their external networks.
Gangneung Mayor Kim Jung-nam said, "I will continue to highlight issues such as Nam-Gangneung Station, which would distribute the functions of the overcrowded Gangneung Station, and a cultural heritage research hub to create a changing Gangneung," adding, "I will maintain communication with the National Assembly, the government, and people from Gangneung living elsewhere, while further strengthening the city’s external activities."
