Incheon Metropolitan City Government Holds 76th Anniversary Commemoration of Battle of Incheon, Honors Veterans’ Sacrifice

【Financial News Incheon = Han Gap-su】 Incheon Metropolitan City Government held a commemoration of the 76th anniversary of the Battle of Incheon to honor the sacrifice and courage of veterans who devoted themselves to defending freedom and peace during the Korean War.
Incheon Metropolitan City Government announced that it held the 76th Anniversary Commemoration of the Battle of Incheon on the 15th together with the Republic of Korea Marine Corps Headquarters.
The event began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the statue of General Douglas MacArthur in Jayu Park and continued with a commemorative ceremony at Sangsang Platform, a peace experience zone for citizens and an appreciation event for invited veterans.
At the wreath-laying ceremony, held at 9:30 a.m., Park Chan-dae, mayor of Incheon, the commandant of the Marine Corps and other senior officials honored the contributions of veterans and fallen service members who helped lead the Battle of Incheon to victory 76 years ago.
More than 1,000 people, including veterans, bereaved family members, Marine Corps personnel and citizens, attended the commemorative ceremony at Sangsang Platform’s Wave Hall. The program featured military band and honor guard performances, the entrance of flags from participating countries, a video report on the course of the battle and a musical reenacting the Battle of Incheon.
A citizen-participation peace experience zone was also operated at the Sangsang Platform event plaza. Divided into three themes—“Courage That Day,” “Echoes of Peace” and “Promises for Tomorrow”—the zone featured military equipment, historical exhibits and screenings of tribute videos.
Citizens received Shasta daisy seeds symbolizing peace and commemorative badges. They also hung messages wishing for peace on a large ship model, reflecting on the meaning of peace.
About 200 people, including veterans, Marine Corps personnel and officials, attended an appreciation event for invited veterans at the Best Western Harbor Park Hotel and expressed their respect and gratitude to the aging veterans.
In his commemorative address, Mayor Park Chan-dae said, “On this day 76 years ago, Incheon was the stage for a miracle that changed the course of South Korean history and a stronghold defending freedom and peace.” He added, “The prosperity we enjoy today is thanks to the noble sacrifice and dedication of the veterans.”
