A Person in Their 70s Drove a Foreign-Made Car While Receiving a Rental Apartment and Welfare Benefits

【Financial News, Jeonju = Kang In】 A person in their 70s who allegedly fraudulently received social security benefits and profited by illegally subletting a rental apartment provided through the welfare system has been referred to prosecutors.
Jeonju Wansan Police Station said on the 15th that it had referred Person A, in their 70s, to prosecutors without detention on charges including violating the National Basic Livelihood Security Act and the Special Act on Public Housing.
Person A is suspected of fraudulently receiving approximately 35 million won in social security benefits.
The person is also suspected of illegally subletting the permanent rental apartment they received to another individual and collecting approximately 5.7 million won in rent.
Person A was reportedly driving a foreign-made car registered in their daughter’s name.
Recipients of social security benefits must report to the guaranteeing institution if they own or regularly use a passenger car with an engine displacement of 2,000 cc or more.
Police, which is conducting a special crackdown on illegal real estate activities, said it would continue to crack down on conduct that disrupts the order of real estate supply.
