Two daycare teachers jailed for repeatedly abusing 3-year-old children

On the 15th, the Jeongeup Branch of the Jeonju District Court sentenced childcare teachers A (35) and B (29), who were indicted on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Child Abuse Crimes, to one year in prison each and ordered them detained in court.
The court also ordered each of them to complete a 40-hour child abuse treatment program and prohibited them from working at related institutions for five years.
The director of the daycare center, C (45), who was indicted on the same charge, was sentenced to a fine of 12 million won.
A and B were indicted on charges of physically and emotionally abusing 12 three-year-old children more than 100 times.
Director C was also found guilty for failing to properly supervise the children, including failing to notice the abuse even though the children were seen crying on CCTV.
The court pointed out, "Child abuse crimes are difficult to detect and have a negative impact not only on the victimized children but also on children who witness them," adding, "The defendants committed the offenses repeatedly despite being childcare teachers who are supposed to raise children in a healthy manner."
The court ruled, "Because the parents have appealed that the harm caused by this incident is serious, punishment commensurate with the defendants' culpability is unavoidable."
