[Financial News] Major discount retailers are moving into the main sales period for Chuseok gift sets after completing their advance reservations. With demand for practical gifts continuing amid high prices, they are broadening their selections from value-for-money products to premium sets in an effort to capture last-minute holiday demand.
According to industry sources on the 15th, Emart and Lotte Mart will conduct their main Chuseok gift-set sales for eight days, from the 17th through the 24th.
Emart will focus its main sales on fruit, livestock products, seafood, processed foods and household goods. Customers who pay with promotional cards or accumulate Shinsegae Point can receive discounts of up to 50% on selected products, while gift certificates will be offered based on the purchase amount. Compared with the advance sales period, the main sale includes additional new wine products and a wider range of prices for fruit, Korean beef and seafood gift sets.
Lotte Mart will also begin its main sale at all stores during the same period. This year, it increased the total number of gift-set items by 10% from the previous year and expanded value-for-money sets priced below 50,000 won by 20%. The product lineup is organized around three themes: “ultra-value,” “practical premium” and “distinctive differentiation.”
Hwang Un-gi, head of Emart’s merchandising division, said, “We focused on broadening customers’ choices while reducing the price burden of holiday gifts.” He added, “During the main sale as well, we will offer a variety of products and benefits so customers can express their feelings without financial pressure.”
