Twin is a solution that utilizes AR technology to overlay and compare 3D design information with actual manufactured products. Inspection personnel can use a tablet to compare the design model with the actual product on-site and verify whether the manufacturing status matches the design information.
In particular, it stands out for the application of 'shape-based automatic alignment and tracking' technology, which automatically aligns the position and orientation of equipment with the 3D design. It is explained that this has the advantage of being usable even indoors where it is difficult to secure satellite signals, by comparing the shape of the equipment captured by the tablet camera with the 3D design.
GS Engineering & Construction expects to be able to reduce the time required for quality inspections and increase accuracy and efficiency through the phased use of AR-based inspection and 3D laser scanning.
GS Engineering & Construction has currently applied quality inspections utilizing Augmented Reality technology to four ongoing plant sites both domestically and internationally, and plans to expand the scope of application to areas requiring factory fabrication and repetitive quality inspections, such as steel modular construction. A GS Engineering & Construction official stated, "We will continue to enhance the efficiency and reliability of plant quality management operations by actively utilizing digital technology."
