GS Caltex Shares Chuseok Warmth for 22nd Consecutive Year, Earning Praise for Supporting the Local Community

【Financial News Yeosu = Hwang Tae-jong, Reporter】Ahead of this year’s Chuseok holiday, GS Caltex is putting shared growth with the local community into practice by donating goods worth KRW 130 million to marginalized residents in Yeosu. The company has continued sharing warmth and care for the 22nd consecutive year since 2005. Its cumulative donations have also surpassed KRW 1.9 billion.
On the 15th, GS Caltex said it held the “2026 GS Caltex Sharing the Warmth of Love for Chuseok” event in the exhibition hall of Building D at the Yeosu World Expo Site. Attendees included Yeosu Mayor Seo Young-hak, Yeosu City Council Chairman Joo Jae-hyun, Jeong Cheol-seop, chairman of the Yeosu Community Security Council, GS Caltex Yeosu Plant Manager Jin Ki-seop, Kee-Eung Kim, head of the SHE External Relations Office, and about 70 representatives and volunteers from welfare facilities in Yeosu. Ten members of GS Caltex’s employee volunteer corps and Hansothoe, a group of retired employees, also took part in packing the donations, adding meaning to the sharing effort.
This year, GS Caltex will deliver 934 20-kilogram bags of white rice, worth approximately KRW 50 million, to 128 social welfare facilities in Yeosu. It will also provide holiday food packages worth approximately KRW 40 million to 700 households, including 600 low-income vulnerable households and 100 households of North Korean defectors. The packages contain a variety of items needed to prepare holiday dishes and everyday meals, including glass noodles, thin wheat noodles, pancake mix, white sugar, beef-bone soup, yukgaejang, dark soy sauce, instant rice, and sesame oil.
In particular, this year GS Caltex prepared 700 boxes of locally produced frozen seafood from Yeosu—including yellow croaker, croaker, and eel sets—through the Yeosu Fisheries Cooperative. Worth approximately KRW 30 million, the seafood will be delivered to 700 vulnerable households to support the successful hosting of the 2026 World Island Exhibition Yeosu Korea and help stimulate the local economy. The company will also provide 220 boxes of anchovies produced in Yeosu to 10 welfare facilities in the area.
Jin Ki-seop, GS Caltex’s plant manager in charge of facilities, said, "The reason we have been able to continue sharing warmth and care every year with the same commitment for 22 years since 2005 is the warm trust and support of the local community." He emphasized, "This year’s seafood support provides practical assistance to vulnerable households during the holiday while also promoting consumption of locally produced seafood, adding greater meaning to our shared growth with the local community."
Yeosu Mayor Seo Young-hak expressed his gratitude, saying, "I deeply appreciate GS Caltex for looking after the community’s struggling neighbors and sharing the warmth of the holiday every year without missing a single year over the past 22 years." He added, "This year is especially meaningful because the company is also delivering local seafood with hopes for the successful hosting of the Yeosu World Island Exhibition."
