Sogang University and Yonsei University Join Forces to Provide Korean-Language Education for International Graduate Students in Science and Engineering

Sogang University and Yonsei University jointly operated an educational program to help international graduate students in science and engineering improve their Korean-language skills and prepare for the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK).
Sogang University announced on the 15th that it held the Sogang-Yonsei TOPIK Summer Intensive Course with Yonsei University and the Seoul Global Center for approximately eight weeks, from June 25 to August 18.
The course was attended by 16 international graduate students in science and engineering enrolled at Sogang University and Yonsei University. Eight students were selected from each university, and the program consisted of 16 sessions totaling 32 hours, with two two-hour classes held each week.
The classes were designed to improve students’ basic Korean communication skills while also helping them prepare for the TOPIK exam. Students learned about the test format and assessment areas and studied essential material, including problem-solving techniques.
The intensive course was organized under a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by Sogang University, Yonsei University, and the Seoul Global Center. The opening ceremony was held at Yonsei University, while the completion ceremony for students who finished the program took place at Sogang University.
The three institutions plan to continue jointly operating Korean-language education programs to support international students in their studies and research and help them adapt to life in Korea.
Jeon Seong-ryul, head of Sogang University’s RISE Project Group and vice president for academic affairs, said, "We will continue expanding various support programs, including Korean-language education, so that international students can successfully continue their studies in Korea and actively communicate as members of the university community."
