[Financial News] At 8:37 a.m. on the 15th, a gas leak occurred aboard a 769-ton Russian fishing vessel moored in Gamcheon-dong, Saha-gu, Busan, while refrigeration work was underway. The gas was believed to be Freon.
Of the vessel’s 15 crew members, 11 evacuated on their own, while four were rescued by the fire authorities. Two of those rescued were in cardiac arrest, and the other two sustained minor injuries.
According to the fire authorities, Freon is colorless and odorless at room temperature. It is chemically very stable and nonflammable. Although it has relatively low toxicity, Freon is heavier than air and can displace breathable air in enclosed spaces, creating a risk of suffocation.
