Chuncheon to Add 550 Electric Vehicles, Expanding This Year’s Total to 1,947

According to Chuncheon on the 15th, the additional allocation consists of 500 passenger cars and 50 trucks. This brings the city’s electric-vehicle distribution plan for the year to 1,947 vehicles, up from 1,397. Chuncheon will invest 2.744 billion won from national, Gangwon State, and municipal funds. The standard subsidies are 4.5 million won per passenger car and 14 million won per truck.
Electric passenger cars will receive an additional 20% of the national subsidy for people in the near-poverty bracket or below and young people purchasing a car for the first time. Families with two or more children aged 18 or younger will receive an additional 1 million to 3 million won, depending on the number of children. Electric trucks will qualify for additional subsidies based on the applicant category, including small-business owners, people in the near-poverty bracket or below, delivery operators, and farmers. Individuals who sell or scrap an internal-combustion vehicle that has been registered for at least three years and purchase an electric vehicle will also receive a conversion subsidy of up to 1.3 million won.
Applications for passenger cars will open at 10 a.m. on the 18th, followed by applications for trucks at 10 a.m. on the 21st. Applications will be accepted until 6 p.m. on December 11, but may close early if the budget is exhausted. Eligible applicants include individuals, sole proprietors, and corporations that have maintained an address in Chuncheon for at least 90 days before the application date. Once a prospective buyer signs a contract with a manufacturer or importer, the company will submit the application through the Integrated Zero-Emission Vehicle Website. Recipients will be selected in the order in which vehicles are delivered and registered.
A Chuncheon official said, "We secured additional vehicles for the second half of the year to meet growing demand for electric vehicles and expand residents’ choices." The official added, "By increasing the distribution of eco-friendly vehicles, we will reduce greenhouse-gas emissions from the transportation sector and move toward becoming a carbon-neutral city."
