Hardline U.S. Left and Right Unusually Join Hands Over AI Threat to Humanity

[Financial News] Hardline progressive Senator Bernie Sanders (Independent, State of Vermont) and conservative hardliner Steve Bannon, former White House advisor, will speak with one voice on the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) systems on the 15th (local time).
According to U.S. political news outlet The Hill and others, Sanders and Bannon plan to call for regulations to ensure humans retain control over AI at the "Pro-Human Assembly" hosted by the nonprofit Future of Life Institute in Washington, D.C., on this day.
Sanders is the most vocal advocate for AI regulation within the progressive camp. Sanders and Democratic Representative Greg Kassar argue that "we must pass legislation to halt the development of AI tools capable of overthrowing or weakening the U.S. government until the government establishes a new agency to oversee AI technology."
Even Steve Bannon, a longtime ally of U.S. President Donald Trump and a strategist for Make America Great Again (MAGA), has recently criticized the president's AI policy, arguing that the reason for his reluctance to regulate AI lies with tech companies.
While Democrats and Republicans remain at odds over how to regulate AI technology, The Hill reported that "a growing number of lawmakers agree that more measures are needed to ensure AI is developed safely while considering its impact on American workers."
