[Financial News] G2GBIO is surging on expectations of benefiting as global pharmaceutical companies' competition to develop once-monthly obesity treatments comes back into the spotlight. As of 9:59 a.m. on the 15th, G2GBIO was trading at 35,350 won on the KOSDAQ (Korea Securities Dealers Automated Quotations), up 3,750 won (11.87%) from the previous trading day. At one point during the session, the stock rose to 39,250 won, recording a gain of over 24%, and trading volume was also increasing rapidly.
The rise in the stock price that day appears to have been influenced by foreign media reports that Ascendis Pharma had reclaimed rights related to metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, including once-monthly Semaglutide, following the termination of its contract with Novo Nordisk.
The market views Ascendis Pharma's recent move as an example demonstrating that long-acting formulations, which enhance ease of administration, are emerging as a next-generation competitive factor in the global obesity treatment market.
This is because, in the current market for GIP/GLP-1 dual agonist obesity treatments, where once-weekly administration is common, enabling once-monthly administration could significantly improve patient convenience.
G2GBIO possesses a proprietary microsphere-based long-acting drug delivery platform called 'InnoLAMP'. This technology encapsulates drugs in microspheres to release them at a constant rate within the body and is considered applicable to extending the administration interval of peptide drugs such as Semaglutide.
In particular, as G2GBIO is pursuing the development of a long-acting Semaglutide formulation, there are expectations that the value of its related platform technology may be reassessed as global big pharma companies increasingly move toward developing once-monthly formulations.
Ascendis Pharma's recent reclamation of rights does not imply a direct contract or cooperation with G2GBIO. It is interpreted that G2GBIO benefited indirectly from the global development trend toward once-monthly obesity treatments, which stimulated investor sentiment toward G2GBIO's long-acting platform. However, additional development is required to confirm the technology's actual commercialization and clinical and regulatory outcomes, which remains a variable.
