Kim Min-seok Says, "There Is Absolutely No Possibility of the Lee Jae-myung Administration Being Shaken"; Moves to Defuse 'Impeachment Warning Sign' Controversy

[Financial News] Kim Min-seok, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, dismissed recent claims of internal fractures within and outside the ruling camp on the 15th, saying, "There is absolutely no possibility of the Lee Jae-myung administration being shaken." He also moved to directly defuse controversy over his remarks about "a phase foreshadowing impeachment," saying, "I hope people will stop indulging in delusions."
Appearing on Minjoo TV that day, Kim Min-seok described the controversy over his remarks about "a phase foreshadowing impeachment" as "a needless concern." He argued that it was "either excessive and meaningless concern or, in reality, an attempt to shake things up disguised as concern." Kim had earlier compared the current political situation to a phase foreshadowing impeachment during the Roh Moo-hyun administration. He was responding directly to criticism that the ruling party leader had unnecessarily mentioned impeachment while the president's approval rating was declining.
Kim Min-seok countered, "The government and the president have clear and confident positions, four years remain in the term, and the direction has been set." He added, "Support has only temporarily fluctuated and is undergoing an adjustment; the direction of state affairs is right, and there have been achievements." He emphasized, "What I pointed out is that there is absolutely no possibility of this administration being shaken enough to become even the great-grandchild of impeachment—let alone impeachment itself—or even the tiniest of its tiniest offspring."
Responding to criticism that his remarks had provided an excuse to undermine the Lee Jae-myung administration, Kim said, "Outside, forces behind the insurrection are seeking a comeback, and political prosecutors are also seeking a comeback." He countered, "What I meant was that this is fundamentally a time to come to our senses and unite our strength through innovation and reflection."
At the same time, he stressed a policy of unity and broadening the party's appeal, saying, "We should not make people uncomfortable or unnecessarily divide them into sides, whether between the ruling and opposition parties or within the ruling party. Going forward, we will boldly sit together with people from different sides and confidently put forward our position on every issue."
