[Financial News] The Busan Metropolitan Government said it will hold a regular meeting of the Busan Maritime Finance Development Council at the seminar room of the Busan International Finance Center (BIFC) on the afternoon of the 15th to discuss ways to advance maritime finance and strengthen cooperation among relevant institutions.
Representatives from the Maritime Finance Comprehensive Center—which comprises the Korea Development Bank (KDB), Korea Trade Insurance Corporation (K-SURE), and The Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM)—as well as the Korea Ocean Business Corporation (KOBC), Korea Shipowners' Association, Korea Shipping Association, and Korea Small and Medium Shipbuilding Industry Cooperative will attend the meeting.
Starting with this meeting, the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam regional business headquarters of the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund (KODIT), Shinhan Bank SOL Cluster Busan, and Korea P&I Club (KP&I) will also participate for the first time.
The meeting will include an introduction to the maritime finance policy direction of the ninth popularly elected municipal administration, introductions of newly participating institutions, expert research and presentations on relevant topics, and an exchange of views and discussion.
Ko Byung-wook, a research fellow at the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI), will present “Strategies for Advancing Maritime Finance to Achieve the Vision of Busan as a Maritime Capital under the Ninth Popularly Elected Municipal Administration.” KDX will then introduce its fractional-investment distribution platform under the theme “Maritime Finance Development and Fractional Investment” and discuss possible links between maritime finance and new financial methods.
Through this regular meeting, the city plans to strengthen information sharing and networking among maritime finance-related institutions. It will also identify practical collaborative projects linking finance with various maritime industry sectors, including shipping, investment, asset management, insurance, and fractional investment.
Lee Dong-yeop, director of the Busan Metropolitan Government’s Financial Startup Policy Bureau, said, “For Busan to emerge as both a maritime capital and a global hub for maritime finance, close ties with industries such as shipping and shipbuilding are important, not only with financial institutions.” He added, “We will actively reflect the voices of various private companies, connect the maritime industry with finance, and develop this into a cooperation system that produces tangible results.”
