[Financial News] The Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM) signed a memorandum of understanding with Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade to establish a system for identifying strategic projects.
The memorandum, signed at Cheong Wa Dae on the 14th, was arranged to coincide with the first Korea–Central Asia Summit. During the Korea-Uzbekistan summit, Hwang Ki-yeon, chairman of KEXIM, and Laziz Kudratov, Uzbekistan’s minister of investment, industry and trade, signed the agreement in the presence of President Lee Jae Myung and Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The areas of cooperation under the agreement cover Uzbekistan’s six national strategic industries, including critical minerals; artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies; advanced infrastructure; the development of specialized industrial complexes for Korean companies; and pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.
KEXIM plans to proactively identify promising projects that offer mutual benefits to both countries and explore the financing support needed for them.
Taking the summit as an opportunity, KEXIM plans to significantly expand its strategic economic partnership with Central Asia, including Uzbekistan, and provide multifaceted support for Korean companies seeking to enter local markets.
Hwang said, "The memorandum of understanding signed with the Uzbek government to establish a system for identifying strategic projects on the occasion of this summit will serve as a strong foothold for Korean companies entering the markets of Uzbekistan and Central Asia. We will do our utmost to further accelerate economic cooperation between the two countries and turn it into tangible results in financial support."
