Hyundai Motor Company to Provide 500 Customized Special Strollers for Children with Severe Disabilities

[Financial News] Hyundai Motor Company has set out to resolve gaps in mobility access for children with severe disabilities. It is providing 500 customized special strollers to families of sick children whose outings have been restricted due to limitations on loading medical equipment and high costs. Going beyond simple donations, the company is collaborating with small and medium-sized enterprises and welfare foundations to directly design dedicated mobility equipment and bear the entire production cost.
Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 15th that it held a "Walk" event at Seoul Children's Grand Park on the 14th, inviting families of sick children, and launched its special stroller support program in earnest.
The event was attended by Hyo Jun Yoon, Head of Hyundai Motor Company's Domestic Business Headquarters; Kim Eun-hee, Head of the Domestic Support Division (Executive Vice President); Kim Kyung-jo, Head of the Domestic Business Support Office (Executive Vice President); Hwang Dae-Byeok, General Manager of Miral Welfare Foundation; Do Hong-gu, CEO of Y-UP, a company specializing in strollers; and about 100 family members of sick children.
This project was planned to improve the mobility environment for children with severe disabilities who are unable to use wheelchairs or standard strollers. Families of these children have previously faced significant inconvenience during hospital visits or daily outings due to limitations on seat size and weight capacity, as well as a lack of space to store medical devices. The financial burden of purchasing assistive devices, such as expensive stroller-type wheelchairs, was also increasing.
To resolve this issue, Hyundai Motor Company has established a cooperative system with Y-UP and Miral Welfare Foundation. Hyundai Motor Company fully supports the production and manufacturing costs for 500 units, Miral Welfare Foundation handles beneficiary selection and project operations, and Y-UP is responsible for design, development, and production.
The newly developed special stroller was designed to reflect the physical conditions of children with severe disabilities. It is equipped with a large seat measuring 50×110 cm, which is 50% larger than that of a standard stroller, and the frame has been reinforced to withstand a load of up to 30 kg.
In addition, it features a reclining seat adjustable up to 175 degrees, an IV stand module, and a large 50-liter storage space, allowing for the simultaneous loading of essential medical equipment such as respirators. A one-touch folding function has also been added to enhance convenience when loading it into a vehicle.

"As a mobility company, we will continue to pursue social contribution activities that improve daily accessibility for people with mobility limitations."
Meanwhile, in addition to supporting special strollers this year, Hyundai Motor Company plans to continue expanding social contribution projects based on its mobility capabilities, such as the 'Hyundai Hope On Wheels (HHOW)' matching grant and overseas talent donations involving maintenance technology.
