The Asian Games men's football team, led by head coach Lee Min-sung, will play their first match of Group D against Qatar at 7:30 p.m. on the 15th at Paloma Mizuho Rugby Stadium in Nagoya, Japan.
This tournament is a critical turning point on which the fate of Korean football hangs in the balance. Head Coach Lee Min-sung also expressed his grim determination. In this competition featuring 15 teams, Korea has been placed in Group D, which consists of only three teams, alongside Qatar and Saudi Arabia. As the top two teams in the group advance to the quarterfinals, the result of the opening match against Qatar serves as the absolute benchmark for advancing to the knockout stage. Following the match against Qatar on the 15th, Korea will play its final group stage match against Saudi Arabia on the 22nd.
The national team is currently preparing for its first match with 22 players out of a 23-man roster, as forward Lee Young-jun (Grasshopper) is delayed in joining the team due to club circumstances. Another variable is the forecast of heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in the Nagoya area on the day of the match.
