[Financial News] As the amendment to the Building Act mandating the use of non-combustible materials for underground parking lot finishing has passed the National Assembly, demand for non-combustible insulation is increasing.
According to Hyundai L&C on the 15th, sales of its sprayable fire-resistant insulation material 'Eco Spray' from January to August this year increased by 31% compared to the same period last year.
Eco Spray is the only spray-type non-combustible insulation material in Korea that meets legal insulation standards. It was developed in-house by Hyundai L&C in 2023 and is manufactured by mixing ultra-lightweight micro glass fibers from the German building materials company Knauf Insulation with a water-based adhesive (binder) developed by Hyundai L&C.
With the recent amendment to the Building Act strengthening fire safety standards for insulation materials used in underground parking lots, the related market is expected to expand. Non-combustible is the highest fire safety rating for building materials, assigned to materials that suppress combustion and fire spread while minimizing the generation of harmful gases in the event of a fire.
It is explained that Eco Spray can be applied seamlessly even in spaces with complex structures because it is sprayed directly onto the wall surface. While conventional spray-type insulation materials struggle to meet legal insulation standards through standalone application, Eco Spray has been recognized for its insulation performance even when applied independently in tests conducted by Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL).
Hyundai L&C plans to expand the color options for Eco Spray to include black, ivory, and gray, and also improve ease of installation.
"To meet strengthened fire safety standards, an increasing number of construction sites are considering not only the grade and material of insulation but also the product form and construction efficiency," said Cho Beom-jun, Senior Vice President of Sales Strategy at Hyundai L&C. "We will continue to expand our lineup of high-performance building materials tailored to advanced construction and safety standards."
