Gyeongsangbuk-do Steps Up Efforts to Train Future Talent in AI, Aviation and Bio

【Financial News, Andong = Reporter Kim Jang-wook】Gyeongsangbuk-do is stepping up efforts, together with five local universities, to train future talent who will lead strategic industries in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region, including artificial intelligence (AI), aviation and bio.
 Gyeongsangbuk-do will hold the “Vision Declaration Ceremony for Gyeongsangbuk-do Strategic Industry Anchor Universities” at Yeungnam University on the 15th. Hwang Myeong-seok, deputy governor for administrative affairs, the presidents of five universities—Yeungnam University, Kyungwoon University, Daegu Catholic University, Daegu University and Kyungil University—and corporate representatives will attend.
The province plans to invest a total of 60 billion won over four years to train 20,000 key local talent.
The event will proceed with a joint vision declaration by the five anchor universities, a keynote lecture, presentations on each university’s programs and an AI demonstration.
Hwang said at the event, "In the AI era, it is important for universities to train talent with the practical capabilities required by companies and industrial sites." He emphasized, "Together with the five anchor universities, we will do our utmost to help universities develop talent alongside local companies and create an environment where that talent can learn, work and grow in the region."
The vision declaration expressed a commitment to transform universities into hubs of regional innovation, create an ecosystem for practical talent, technology and startups, and achieve sustainable growth by connecting globally competitive education and industry-academia cooperation capabilities with the region.
Wonjae Lee, a professor at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), will then deliver a keynote lecture titled “The Future of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Anchor University Alliance.”
Yeungnam University aims to become the “Gyeongsangbuk-do AI+X Hub University.” It will train approximately 4,000 AI+X professionals and establish an AI research and demonstration base centered on a three-pole belt linking Yeongcheon for mobility, Gyeongsan for ICT and Uiseong County for bio.
Kyungwoon University will train approximately 6,000 people by establishing a cooperation system among local government, industry, academia, research institutes, government agencies and the military in the future aviation sector. Daegu Catholic University, Daegu University and Kyungil University will jointly operate the K-BIC bio convergence major and train approximately 10,000 bio professionals.
