While OpenAI has publicly said it will not hold an IPO this year for reasons related to AI safety, Anthropic appears to have chosen a strategy of increasing transparency through an IPO. Speculation that NVIDIA will participate as a major investor in Anthropic’s IPO has also emerged, raising interest in how the contrasting IPO strategies of Anthropic and OpenAI—the two leading forces in the global AI market—will affect AI development, regulation, and capital markets.
On the 14th, local time, U.S. political news outlet Axios reported, citing multiple sources, that Anthropic was moving ahead with its IPO plans for this year without making changes. Dario Amodei, Anthropic’s CEO, recently shook the market by arguing that the pace of AI development should be slowed, but this reportedly did not affect the IPO schedule. Anthropic is reportedly planning to list on Nasdaq.

Axios analyzed that Anthropic’s management had chosen the position that becoming a publicly listed company through an IPO could instead ensure greater transparency and help strengthen AI safety.
Speculation has also emerged that NVIDIA is discussing plans to participate as a major investor in Anthropic’s IPO, with an investment of up to $10 billion, or approximately 13 trillion won.
Global capital markets expect Anthropic to raise up to $100 billion, or approximately 130 trillion won, through its IPO and receive a valuation of around $2 trillion, or approximately 2,700 trillion won.
The market initially expected Anthropic to hold its IPO in early September, but the timing now appears to be somewhat delayed. Major U.S. media outlets have suggested that Anthropic’s IPO could take place before November, ahead of the U.S. midterm elections.
Meanwhile, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman officially stated on the 12th, local time, "We will not go public in 2026." He explained the reason for delaying the IPO, saying, "With AI safety and control issues still requiring our attention, this is not a wise time to pursue an IPO."
Interest is mounting over what consequences Anthropic’s and OpenAI’s contrasting IPO decisions, made in response to the same AI safety concerns, will produce in the global AI market.
