Hanoi, Vietnam, to Build Five Additional Bridges Across the Red River by 2038

[HANOI, Vietnam—Correspondent Kim Jun-seok] Hanoi plans to build five additional bridges across the Red River by 2038 to improve connectivity between central districts and the outer ring road.
According to local media reports on the 14th, Hanoi announced the plan in a comprehensive adjustment proposal for the detailed urban district plan for the Red River, drawn at a scale of 1:5,000, to advance the Red River Landscape Boulevard investment project. The city is collecting public opinions from the 7th through the 27th of this month.
Specifically, Hanoi plans to build five additional bridges across the Red River between 2026 and 2038: Lien Trung, Tam Xa, Cu Khoi, Bat Trang, and Khuyen Luong.
Six bridges are currently in operation across the Red River: Thang Long Bridge, Nhat Tan Bridge, Long Biên Bridge, Chuong Duong Bridge, Vinh Tuy Bridge, and Thanh Tri Bridge. Another six are under construction: Hong Ha Bridge, Thuong Cat Bridge, Tu Lien Bridge, Tran Hung Dao Bridge, Ngoc Hoi Bridge, and Me So Bridge. If the five planned bridges are added, the total number of bridges crossing the Red River along the Red River Landscape Boulevard will rise to 17.
Hanoi plans to establish an integrated bridge network that organically connects roads, waterways, and urban railways, thereby promoting development across the region and the city as a whole. With the Red River Landscape Boulevard designated as one of the capital's nine major development axes, the project will secure continuity and high traffic capacity in the transportation network on both sides of the Red River while also aligning with flood prevention and safety management goals.
The Red River Landscape Boulevard project covers approximately 11,418 hectares. It will include a major 10-lane divided road running parallel along both banks, as well as parks, urban spaces, and technical infrastructure.
Under the planned schedule, the entire project will be carried out from 2026 to 2038. During the initial phase from 2026 to 2030, priority investment will go to the landscape boulevard on both banks, embankment and riverside improvement works, some parks, the 'urban living room' area, residential urban districts in the Linh Nam and Long Biên areas, and separate land-compensation projects. From 2030 to 2038, the remaining detailed projects will be pursued and completed.
