[Financial News] A foreign national in his 30s suddenly collapsed while running on a track, but he recovered safely thanks to the swift emergency response by members of a running club who witnessed the incident.
According to the Jeonbuk State Fire Headquarters on the 14th, a Bangladeshi man in his 30s, identified as A, suddenly collapsed at around 8 a.m. the previous day while running on the track at Kunsan National University in Miryong-dong, Gunsan City.
Members of the running club “GUMP,” who were holding their regular training session at the time, found A collapsed, immediately called 119, and began providing emergency aid.
While photographer Kim Kyung-jun, in his 40s, spoke with 119 and received medical instructions, Kunsan Prison correctional officer Jin Byeong-yeon, in his 50s; Moon Byeong-ho, a member of the Gunsan Volunteer Fire Brigade’s Gongseol Regional Unit, in his 50s; and firefighter Lim Su-jin, in her 40s, from the 119 General Situation Room took turns performing CPR on A.
They continued CPR in shifts until the ambulance crew arrived, then handed over the patient’s condition and the measures taken. After receiving advanced emergency treatment from the paramedics, A regained spontaneous circulation. This occurred 13 minutes after the emergency call was received.
A was later transported to a hospital. Fire authorities said the rescuers’ swift initial response played a major role in saving the patient.
Jin Hyeong-min, chief of the Jeonbuk State Fire Headquarters, said, “The calm response of those who acted without hesitation despite the sudden situation played a major role in saving a precious life.” He added, “Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone without warning, so please learn how to perform CPR and use an automated external defibrillator in advance.”
