Sookmyung Women's University Supports Cultural Experiences for Local Children on Its 120th Anniversary

[Financial News] Sookmyung Women's University has launched a community partnership education program combining private tourism infrastructure with community support to mark the 120th anniversary of its founding. The university announced on the 14th that it had partnered with Yellow Balloon City Bus to invite children from community child centers in Yongsan District to participate in “Sookmyung and Yellow,” a program designed to provide history and cultural experiences and help them explore career paths.
A total of 50 people participated, including 10 student mentors from Sookmyung Women's University and 30 children from four community child centers in Yongsan District: Haesimwon, Somang-eul Chatneun-i, Youngnak Community Child Center, and Yongsan Community Child Center. Through cooperation between the university and a company, the program gave local children who have relatively few opportunities for cultural experiences a chance to see and learn about the city's history and culture firsthand.
The event went beyond simple sightseeing and took the form of participatory education, with university students and children working in groups to complete assignments. After touring the Sookmyung Women's University Museum and Sookmyung Women's University History Museum and learning about the university's 120-year educational history, the participants rode a Yellow Balloon double-decker bus to major downtown landmarks, including Seoul Station, Sungnyemun Gate (Namdaemun), Gwanghwamun, and Gyeongbokgung Palace. They then visited Namsan Cable Car and The War Memorial of Korea, completing quizzes and missions while discussing their career concerns.
An official from the Sookmyung Women's University Student Support Center said, “The children fulfilled the purpose of the program by exploring various parts of downtown Seoul, learning new things, and sharing their thoughts.” The official added, “We plan to continue developing sharing programs where university students and the local community can interact and grow together.”
