Daegu Metropolitan City Launches Special Transportation Measures with Full Focus on Citizen Convenience and Safety

【Financial News Daegu=Reporter Kim Jang-wook】Daegu Metropolitan City will implement special transportation measures for the Chuseok holiday, focusing on providing safe and comfortable travel home during the holiday period.
To this end, the city will implement special transportation measures for the Chuseok holiday for five days, from the 23rd to the 27th.
According to the city, overall travel demand for this year’s Chuseok holiday—including trains, flights and intercity buses—is expected to decline somewhat, as the holiday period has been shortened from seven days to four compared with last year. However, major roads are expected to become congested on the 23rd, the day before the holiday, due to vehicles heading to hometowns, and on the 26th, the day after the holiday, due to visitors traveling to ancestral graves and vehicles returning from hometowns.
Accordingly, the city has designated the period from the 23rd to the 27th as the special transportation measures period and will enter an emergency duty system. The measures include inspecting transportation convenience facilities for holiday travelers, guiding traffic flow on major arterial roads, and managing parking and stopping in areas with large concentrations of people.
Jooyoung Hur, head of the Transportation Bureau, emphasized, "All transportation-related departments will make every effort to ensure that holiday travelers and citizens can spend a safe and enjoyable holiday without transportation inconveniences. We also hope citizens will actively use the transportation information provided by Daegu Metropolitan City and have a comfortable and safe Chuseok holiday."
First, the Comprehensive Transportation Situation Room will operate for five days, from the 23rd to the 27th. A total of 158 employees from Daegu Metropolitan City’s Transportation Bureau and the transportation departments of its districts and counties will receive and handle transportation-related complaints. They will also maintain a real-time cooperation system with relevant agencies, including the National Police Agency and the Fire and Safety Headquarters, to respond swiftly to traffic accidents.
The city will also deploy field patrol teams to areas expected to experience congestion due to concentrated traffic, including Dongdaegu Station and the Dongdaegu Bus Transfer Center. In cooperation with the Dongbu Police Station’s Traffic Safety Unit, the teams will manage traffic flow in congested sections and conduct traffic-order guidance activities.
To improve parking convenience for citizens and revitalize local businesses during the Chuseok holiday, 834 public and public-institution parking lots, with a total capacity of more than 45,000 spaces, will be opened free of charge from the 23rd to the 27th.
In particular, this year the city plans to enhance convenience for citizens by opening 23 Daegu Metropolitan City public parking lots near traditional markets, with approximately 2,500 spaces, free of charge one day earlier, beginning on the 22nd.
Earlier, from the 15th to the 17th, the city will inspect traffic signals and traffic-safety facilities on major arterial roads, at interchanges and around traditional markets.
The inspections are being conducted to secure the safety of sections expected to see increased traffic ahead of the Chuseok holiday and to minimize inconvenience for citizens.
