[Financial News Jeju = Reporter Jeong Yong-bok] During the Chuseok holiday in Jeju, a safety network covering 13 sectors—including disasters, emergency medical services, transportation, and fires—will be operational 24 hours a day. 139 hospitals and clinics and 84 pharmacies will remain open, and chartered buses will be deployed in the event of flight cancellations or delays.
According to Jeju Special Self-Governing Province on the 14th, the province has prepared comprehensive safety measures in 13 areas in preparation for the Chuseok holiday and is operating a system for advance inspections, situation management during the holiday period, and initial response in the event of an accident.
The key is to ensure that disaster, medical, and transportation response systems do not cease during the holiday period. Jeju Province's Disaster and Safety Situation Room will maintain a 24-hour emergency duty system. The plan is to reduce command and response times in the event of an accident by increasing the level of responsibility of the situation commander compared with normal times.
The CCTV Integrated Control Center will also conduct intensive monitoring around the clock in cooperation with the police and fire departments. When dangerous situations such as violence, traffic accidents, or missing persons are identified, the center will connect them to on-site responses by the police and fire departments.
Medical institutions will also operate during the holiday period to minimize gaps in emergency medical services. There will be 139 hospitals and clinics and 84 pharmacies open across the province. Four Moonlight Children's Hospitals and seven Public night pharmacies, which treat pediatric patients at night and on holidays, will also operate.
A separate emergency medical situation room will operate to manage the status of medical institutions and continuously monitor for infectious diseases. In the event of an emergency, information about medical institutions and pharmacies can be obtained through the 129 Health and Welfare Counseling Center, the 119 Emergency Medical Services Management Center, and the 120 Manduk Call Center. Information about medical institutions and pharmacies open during the holiday period can also be checked through the Emergency Medical Portal (E-Gen) and related mobile services.
For island regions like Jeju, transportation response is also a crucial aspect, as air and maritime traffic conditions during the holiday period directly affect the movement of residents and tourists.

The province will operate a special transportation countermeasures situation room and a special maritime and port situation room. It will respond to transportation inconveniences by deploying chartered buses if airport users surge due to flight cancellations or delays. The Autonomous Police Force will concentrate personnel and equipment in areas where congestion is expected, such as airports and major roads, and flexibly adjust traffic signal operations according to traffic volume.
Responses to fires and emergencies will also be strengthened. Fire authorities will conduct unannounced safety inspections of multi-use facilities, such as accommodations and social welfare facilities used by older adults, children, and people with disabilities. They will focus on checking whether emergency exits are blocked and whether firefighting equipment is malfunctioning. The 119 Emergency Medical Services Management Center will operate 24 hours a day, with additional emergency dispatchers deployed.
Advance inspections will also be conducted to eliminate potential hazards before the holiday. Joint inspection teams from relevant agencies will verify the safety management status of multi-use facilities, such as traditional markets and large supermarkets, where large crowds gather. Construction sites, fishing boats, and passenger ships across the province are also subject to inspection.
Prevention of livestock infectious diseases and food safety management are also included. Hygiene management and food-poisoning prevention activities will be strengthened, focusing on seafood, rice cakes and traditional sweets, processed foods for gifts, and cooked foods for ancestral rites, which are in high demand during the holiday.
Care gaps will also be addressed. In coordination with life-support workers, officials will check on the well-being of older adults living alone and monitor the safety of vulnerable households. An emergency contact system will be maintained with social welfare facilities during the holiday period.
The focus of these measures is to bring together risks likely to occur during the holiday period into a single response system, ranging from safety inspections of multi-use facilities to emergency medical services, transportation, fires, infectious diseases, and care for vulnerable groups.
