COVID-19 Cases Rise Ahead of Chuseok; Jeonbuk State Urges Caution

【Financial News Jeonju = Kang In】 Respiratory infectious diseases, including influenza and COVID-19, are on the rise, prompting Jeonbuk State to step up its vigilance.
On the 14th, the Jeonbuk State Government urged residents to follow preventive measures against infectious diseases ahead of the mass movement of people for the Chuseok holiday.
The number of influenza patients reported by sentinel surveillance institutions in the province surged from 10.1 in epidemiological week 33 (August 9–15) to 27.6 in week 36 (August 30–September 5).
COVID-19 hospitalizations also rose sharply from four to 23 during the same period.
This year, Jeonbuk State has recorded 22 cases of scrub typhus and nine cases of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS), two of which resulted in death. Two of the three patients with Vibrio vulnificus sepsis also died.
In response, the Jeonbuk State Government emphasized the need to prevent respiratory infectious diseases by washing hands, practicing proper cough etiquette, and regularly ventilating indoor spaces. It also advised people to prevent tick-borne diseases by wearing long clothing and using insect repellent during outdoor activities.
To prevent waterborne infectious diseases, the government explained that people should thoroughly cook their food, drink boiled water, and wash their hands with soap for at least 30 seconds before and after cooking.
