[Financial News] Hana Securities is joining forces with Upbit Global to expand its digital-asset business.
Hana Securities announced on the 14th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Upbit Global at its headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 11th to cooperate in digital assets and finance. Upbit Global is a Singapore-based holding company overseeing Upbit’s overseas digital-asset business.
Under the agreement, the two companies plan to combine their financial and asset-management capabilities with digital-asset technology and global networks to identify new business opportunities. Key areas of cooperation include developing digital-asset asset-management business models; designing and launching digital-asset-related products and services; building digital-asset infrastructure and systems; and making joint investments in digital-asset businesses. They will discuss specific cooperation measures while taking relevant regulations and market conditions into comprehensive consideration.
The two companies plan to explore various cooperation opportunities in stages, with Singapore as their main focus. Hana Securities operates Hana Asset Management Asia (HAMA) in Singapore, while Upbit Global conducts its overseas digital-asset business from Singapore.
In addition to the main areas of cooperation, the companies will continue to identify opportunities within the scope of their overseas networks and licenses. They also plan to strengthen their competitiveness in digital-asset finance based on regulatory compliance and investor protection.
Seong-muk Kang, CEO of Hana Securities, said, "Hana Securities is accelerating its digital-asset business to establish an early foundation for issuing and trading traditional financial products such as stocks, bonds, and funds in tokenized form. We will gradually build related infrastructure, including an issuance platform, in line with the institutionalization of Token Securities (STO), and actively prepare for the full-scale launch of the STO market next year."
Kook Hyun Kim, CEO of Upbit Global, stated, "This agreement will serve as an opportunity to explore new avenues of cooperation based on expertise in traditional finance and digital assets. We will use Upbit Global’s technology and overseas business experience to identify practical cooperation measures and contribute to building a trusted digital-asset financial ecosystem."
