Yeosu to Improve Living Conditions in the Geomundo Island Area

【Financial News Yeosu = Hwang Tae-jong】Yeosu is moving to improve living conditions and promote tourism in the Geomundo Island area.
On the 14th, Yeosu said that 10 projects to improve living conditions and promote tourism in the Geomundo Island area of Samsan-myeon had been included in MOIS’s First Comprehensive Development Plan for Remote Outlying Islands (2026–2030). The total project cost is 12.73 billion won.
Yeosu Mayor Seo Young-hak said, "The inclusion of these projects in the national comprehensive development plan is highly significant because it establishes a foundation for securing national funding to develop remote outlying islands where living conditions are poor." He emphasized, "We will improve the living environment in the Geomundo Island area and create an island where residents can live securely."
He added, "We will make every effort to help Geomundo Island become a hub of the southern coastal marine tourism region by actively utilizing its rich historical and cultural resources."
Meanwhile, the Comprehensive Development Plan for Remote Outlying Islands is the first national comprehensive plan established for 43 remote outlying islands where residents live. From this year through 2030, 138 projects—including the expansion of safety and living infrastructure and improvements to transportation and tourism conditions—will be carried out over five years at a total cost of 1.0942 trillion won.
Geomundo Island area projects include the construction of a coastal walking trail on Geomundo Island (3.61 billion won), installation of a passenger ferry berthing facility on Dongdo (2 billion won), renovation of a relics museum on Seodo (1.28 billion won), and expansion of a communal workshop in Seodo Village (1.4 billion won).
As the inclusion of these projects in the national comprehensive development plan has created the conditions for implementation, Yeosu plans to set priorities for each project by comprehensively considering the city’s fiscal situation and the urgency of the projects, then proceed with them in stages.
