The pilot project is a follow-up to the 'Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Cooperation on Digital Asset Payment and Ecosystem Establishment' signed with the Solana Foundation last June. It was pursued to verify the feasibility of applying blockchain technology to actual business operations and to secure related technical capabilities. The project involved Gwangju Bank, the Solana Foundation—a leader in the global blockchain ecosystem—and Node Infra, a company specializing in blockchain infrastructure. Based on Solana's blockchain technology, the three companies implemented a digital meal ticket system that can be actually used in employee cafeterias and verified its applicability in an operational environment.
Gwangju Bank implemented the entire process—ranging from digital wallet issuance to the issuance and use of digital meal vouchers, transfers between employees, and settlement—in a distributed ledger environment for its headquarters staff, and verified the system's processing efficiency and stability through actual operation. Through this, the bank accumulated experience and know-how in directly designing and operating blockchain-based digital asset services, while significantly strengthening its internal capabilities in related technologies. Moving forward, based on the results of this pilot project, the bank plans to review new services in various fields, including digital asset payments, and subsequent initiatives.
