Volkswagen Launches ‘Golf GTI Black Edition’ to Mark 20th Anniversary in South Korea

[Financial News] Volkswagen Group Korea is introducing a special limited-edition model to mark the 20th anniversary of the high-performance hatchback Volkswagen Golf GTI’s arrival in South Korea. The company plans to target demand for high-performance imported vehicles by highlighting the model’s distinctive identity with exclusive design elements while offering financial benefits, including interest-free installment financing and consumables support worth 2 million won.
Volkswagen Group Korea announced on the 14th that it would launch the Golf GTI Black Edition to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Volkswagen Golf GTI’s global launch and its 20th anniversary in South Korea, with sales beginning at dealerships nationwide on the 16th. First introduced to the South Korean market in 2006, the Volkswagen Golf GTI has established itself as an iconic model in the country’s imported-car market, thanks to its dynamic driving performance and everyday practicality.
The Black Edition features exclusive side decals combining a black body with red, the GTI’s signature color, and a honeycomb pattern. The vivid contrast between red and black accentuates the dynamic image characteristic of a high-performance vehicle. The vehicle’s recommended retail price is 52.75 million won.
A financing promotion will also be offered to lower the barrier to purchase. Through a Hana Capital financing product, customers can make a 43.2% down payment and receive interest-free installment financing with monthly payments of 624,460 won for 48 months. If customers choose a 60-month low-interest installment plan at an annual rate of 1.94% with a 30% down payment, the monthly payment will be 646,290 won.
The first 50 purchasers will receive an exclusive sports bag. They will also receive a service package worth 2 million won, allowing major consumables—including engine oil, filters, spark plugs and brake pads—to be replaced free of charge for five years. The package also includes a five-year or 150,000-kilometer extended warranty and coverage for the accident-repair deductible for one year, capped at 500,000 won per accident.
Michael Ant, president of Volkswagen Group Korea, said, "As the Volkswagen Golf GTI has been loved in the South Korean market for 20 years, this Black Edition was created to commemorate that milestone in an even more special way." He added, "Through a design that emphasizes the GTI’s distinctive character and practical customer benefits, customers will be able to experience the special value unique to a limited-edition model."
Meanwhile, Volkswagen Group Korea plans to offer invitations, through a lottery among Black Edition purchasers, to the 2026 Volkswagen Golf Treffen Korea, a brand owners’ event scheduled to take place in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, on October 17.
