The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) announced on the 14th that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with NEXON Games to cooperate on K-content development and would provide more than 71,000 items of Korean tourism photo and video data held by the organization for game development.
The materials provided by KTO consist of nationwide tourism image and video data included in the government's 'AI and High-Value Data TOP 100.' They are high-quality content that has undergone professional photography and review. NEXON Games plans to use the data to create settings for its new action-adventure game, 'Woochi the Wayfarer,' which is based on the Korean classic novel 'The Story of Jeon Woo-chi.'
The two sides also agreed to introduce Korea's natural landscapes and cultural heritage to global users through the game and jointly pursue tourism marketing aimed at encouraging actual visits to Korea. As the game approaches its release, they will also consider overseas promotional strategies linked to the tourist destinations featured as settings in the game.
Kim Young-mi, head of the Tourism AI Innovation Division at KTO, said, "Tourism data is being used as an asset that converges with various industries beyond AI training. I hope the Korean landscapes depicted in the game will naturally lead to greater demand for visits to Korea."
